Annapolis, MD - The Interfaith Domestic Violence Coalition and the Governor's Office of Community Initiatives will host the 5th Annual Interfaith Domestic Violence Conference to unite faith based leaders against domestic violence. This event aims to ensure that every clergy person of every religion and denomination have a clear understanding of the unique dynamics of domestic violence which impact women, children, families and communities, while educating them on the extensive community resources available for domestic violence victims. This conference will also feature a video presentation by One Love Foundation and provide information and resources to spark life-changing conversations and understanding that can transform families, strengthen our communities, and assist the vulnerable among us.
Clergy are in a unique position. For many victims of domestic violence, the first person they reach out to is their faith leader. This clergy person's initial reaction and words play a crucial role in determining the next steps a victim will take - will they return home to, possibly, a life threatening situation, or will they seek out community resources and others who can offer assistance?
