Londoners heading back to work today have spoken of 'empty streets' and 'five-minute journeys' - after some decided to extend their Christmas break.
Public transport and streets in the capital city appeared bare, with pictures painting an unusually quiet picture for the morning commute. 
Some will be returning to work for the first time since Friday, December 21 - having enjoyed eleven days away from the office. 

Lower Thames Street was similarly quiet this morning, as some headed back to work for the first time since Friday, December 21. As it appears some may have chosen to take an extra three days off and start back at work on Monday, January 7

Those deciding to start work again on Monday, January 7 will need to take three days annual leave this week, provided they were given New Year's Eve off. It appears some may have decided to do this, with London Bridge surprisingly quiet this morning

There were plenty of seats on the London Underground this morning (pictured right is the Northern Line) as some headed back to work for the first time in eleven days. Monument Station (left) was relatively quiet at 8.30am today, a usually busy time at which many are making their way to work
But it appears their first journey into work has been a remarkably pleasant experience, with plenty of seats available on both the Underground and on buses. 
Kim Sunley was one such commuter and took to Twitter to comment on the unusual scene, saying: 'Empty upper deck on London bus to work this morning. Slightly freaked after watching Luther.' 
Waterloo Station (pictured) was similarly quiet at 8.30am today, a time at which rush hour is usually at its peak. With commuters having easy passage through the entry and exit barriers

Others also took to Twitter to comment on the remarkably quiet journey into work.
One user, called Ross, said: 'Surprisingly empty train to London today for first day back at new job. Hoping week two goes as well as week one.'
While another, Lauren Dudley, said: 'Judging by the empty streets today, I have been fooled.
'I thought we were all in this together?! Are none of you returning to work?! Rude.'
