George I

The second child and eldest daughter of Britain's James VI and I was Elizabeth Stuart (1596 – 1662), who married Frederick V of the Palatinate.

In 1714, on the death of Britain's Queen Anne, Elizabeth Stuart's grandson became George I of Great Britain, beginning the Hanover line of succession.

King George I was married to his cousin Sophia Dorothea of Celle.

George I had three illegitimate children and several mistresses.

His wife Sophia eloped with Swedish Count Philip Konigsmark.

In 1694 Count Philip Konigsmark mysteriously disappeared believed killed with George's connivance.

Sophia was imprisoned in Castle Ahlden in Celle where she remained until she died 30 years later.

John Conroy and Queen Victoria.

According to the official story, Queen Victoria was the daughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, the fourth son of King George III.

At one time, the English biographer AN Wilson suggested that Queen Victoria’s real father was John Conroy, a philandering Irishman.

In a newspaper article Wilson wrote: "The old Duke of Kent, her supposed father, was well ‘past it’ by the time Victoria was conceived.

"Moreover, there is the family's curious medical history."

King George III, grandfather of Victoria, suffered from porphyria.

It is a hereditary condition but none of Victoria’s numerous descendants suffered from it.

Another medical argument advanced by Wilson was that Queen Victoria passed on haemophilia to her descendants. But there is no medical evidence of the disease in the previous generations.

The Duke of Kent was married to Victoire, Princess of Leiningen.

There was gossip that Conroy and Victoire were lovers.
