wo members of a drug-dealing gang that used a helicopter to smuggle in cocaine from Europe to the UK have been sentenced to 25 years in jail today.
The helicopter was seized in September last year, where a sophisticated hide for the drugs was found under seats in the aircraft. Federic Fagnoul, who flew in with the helicopter, was found with £7 million worth of cocaine in his possession on the same day.
Detectives from the Organised Crime Command believe that 50kg of cocaine was being imported with each flight into the UK.
John Bolter, who was also identified as part as the drug supply conspiracy, was stopped by officers in the same month and was found to be driving with 20kg of cocaine in a hidden compartment in the boot.Fagnoul pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import Class A drugs and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and was sentenced to 17 years and six months imprisonment.
Bolter was charged with possession with intent to supply. He pleaded guilty to this and was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years imprisonment.
Detective Chief Superintendent Mick Gallagher, head of the Met’s Organised Crime Command, said: "This was an outstanding investigation by the Organised Crime Command combating a drug-dealing network that spread from Europe to the UK.
"Detailed detective work identified the significant roles these defendants played in the supply of millions of pounds worth of cocaine into the UK. The Organised Crime Command will relentlessly pursue those involved in the supply of class A drugs."
