On Friday, the popular classifieds website removed its "personals" section, citing a federal antisex trafficking bill that would hold the website and others responsible for illegal activity.
While sites like Craigslist and Backpage have become a popular place for people to find casual hookups, they're also used to facilitate prostitution and sex trafficking.
"The internet has completely changed the face of these investigations," Kent County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Joel Roon told 24 Hour News 8 Monday.
For two years, Roon worked on a federal task force aimed at protecting kids. He said those trying to facilitate prostitution and sex trafficking have increasingly turned their focus to the internet.
