news-today.world | It was state Sen. Ed Reilly versus various Eastern Shore governments Wednesday as he defended legislation to weaken those governments’ veto power over a potential new bridge across the Chesapeake Bay.
Reilly argued in a committee hearing that the Eastern Shore counties shouldn’t have the authority to stop a new Chesapeake Bay Bridge just because they don’t like the location of it.
State law requires a state body to get consent from a majority of affected Eastern Shore counties when building a toll bridge or highway. This affects nine counties: Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester counties.
