news-today.world | (CENTREVILLE, MD) — A Maryland state trooper is being treated for injuries he sustained tonight when he was struck by a vehicle while on foot assisting with the arrest of an armed robbery suspect in Queen Anne’s County.
The trooper is identified as First Sergeant John Beville, a 14-year-veteran of the Maryland State Police assigned to the Special Operations Division. He was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he is being treated for what are reported to be non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle involved is identified as Randall Cox, 62, of Glen Burnie, Md. He was not injured. The preliminary investigation indicates no charges are expected to be filed.
During this afternoon and evening, police in the area of Talbot and Queen Anne’s counties were on the lookout for four suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred about 2:00 p.m. today in Easton. Police had apprehended two suspects earlier and two remained at large.
Shortly after 7:00 p.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Centreville Barrack received a 911 call regarding an attempted break-in occurring at a home in the area of Rt. 404 near Rt. 309. Troopers converged on the area, including F/Sgt. Beville, who was driving westbound on Rt. 404.
Just west of Rt. 309, F/Sgt. Beville observed the suspect on the shoulder of Rt. 404 running east, toward Rt. 309. F/Sgt. Beville exited his patrol vehicle and ran across westbound Rt. 404, the median and onto eastbound Rt. 404. He was shouting commands to the suspect, who was in the act of surrendering on the shoulder of Rt. 404.
The preliminary investigation indicates F/Sgt. Beville was still in the roadway of eastbound Rt. 404 when the passenger side of a 2012 Nissan pickup driven by Mr. Cox struck him as it went by. The driver, who apparently did not see the trooper, immediately stopped and remained on the scene. The suspect was taken into custody by other troopers on the scene.
