Colin Kaepernick has been making headlines recently for his refusal to stand during the National Anthem. He has publicly stated that by sitting, he was standing up for minorities who are oppressed every day. It has caused a lot of public outrage, and perhaps the harshest response came from his own mother.
She didn’t hold back when discussing her feelings on her son’s protest. You won’t believe what she had to say:
Colin’s birthmom gave him up for adoption when he was just 6 weeks old. He was adopted by Rick and Teresa Kaepernick, who are both white. Rick and Teresa had lost 2 of their own sons to heart defects and were looking for a boy to fill their void.
He would become the youngest of 3 children, growing up with older brother Kyle and sister Devon Kaepernick.
Before getting to his mother’s public outrage, first take a look at who Colin really is.
He is a devout Christian. Many of the tattoos on his body reference the bible. On his right arm, there’s a scroll with the verse Psalm 18:39 written on it. Underneath that scroll is the phrase “To God The Glory” with praying hands.
On his left arm, there’s a crucifix with “Heaven Sent” on it with “God Will Guide Me” around it. His back also has a large tattoo of angels fighting against demons.
