In China, however, as we fight for unga here, citizens are playing with food of a different kind. A Chinese man last week became a proud owner of a bar of gold after devouring 2kg of worms and locusts in a challenge.
The man in Lijiang, Southwestern Yunnan Province took five minutes to clear the mountain of worms and emerge tops.
"The visitor to the scenic town of Lijiang downed the offerings of bamboo worms and locusts within five minutes, pronouncing his first taste of the local specialty delicious," reported South China Morning Post.
Insects like bee larvae, grasshoppers and cicadas, according to the paper, are part of Yunnan cuisine for centuries, and residents encourage consumption especially among visitors of the town. It was not established how much the gold bar was worth.
